Absences During Final Exams in April
Request makeup exams through Academic Counselling promptly
Students who are unable to write a final examination in April, whether due to COVID or other medical or personal circumstances, will need to connect with their home faculty Academic Counselling office to request a makeup exam.
For non-COVID related circumstances, a student will normally be able to obtain a Student Medical Certificate or other documentation to support their request. Visit Absences & Academic Consideration for more information.
In the case of COVID symptoms and/or isolation, most students will not be able to obtain a test to determine the nature of their illness. The Provincial Self-Assessment Tool directs such students to self-isolate (and therefore to not seek a COVID test).
ALL STUDENTS requesting a makeup exam, please be aware of the following:
- Makeups are likely to occur outside of the regular examination period in April, so you may be expected to return to campus to write in May. Normally, makeup exams are scheduled by the instructor and/or Department, but this could be subject to change dependent on demand. If demand is high, the Registrar’s Office may need to establish a makeup examination schedule beginning in mid-May.
- If you are seeking academic considerations for absence due to COVID illness, be advised that you will be required to miss all in-person examinations that occur within your 5-day self-isolation period. Failure to follow these Provincial Guidelines, which are in place to protect you and all those on campus, could result in being charged with a scholastic offence.
If you are a Social Science student, please visit our Help Portal for assistance with any requested absences (COVID and non-COVID related).
